Efacec has been chosen by Águas do Norte for the installation of the discharge floodgates of Pretarouca’s dam, in Lamego. Efacec’s intervention will expand the dam capacity by 30%, allowing it to form a reservoir supporting the region in case of prolonged drought.

This intervention will enlarge the infrastructure’s current capacity of 3,2 million cubic meters to 4,2 million cubic meters, based on a sustainability principle, increasing the ability of surface consumption rather than from the underground.

The six-month contract has been signed in July with Águas do Norte, the managing company of the inter-municipal water supplier and sanitation system, in the North of the country.

The work includes interventions on the mechanical level, civil construction and electrical equipment, anticipating the installation of “Obermeyer” hinged floodgates, whose operation is carried out through the insufflation/deflation of rubber pads, placed under the gates, using compressed air.

Efacec delivers work in hydric power plants since 1950 in countries such as Tunisia and Iceland. In Portugal, from 2011 to 2015, the Portuguese company has participated in works at hydroelectric plants of Ermida and Ribeiradio, in Sever de Vouga, providing turnkey solutions in supplying and assembling mechanical and electric equipment, from transformers and electrical substations to floodgates and overhead cranes.
