Preventing the emission of 75,000 tons of CO2 per year.

One of Portugal’s major photovoltaic solar energy projects was inaugurated on September 29th in Alcoutim, which will supply energy to more than 80,000 houses and prevent the emission of 75,000 tons of CO2 per year.

Galp, the promoter of the Alcoutim solar photovoltaic project, has once again shown its confidence in Efacec’s solutions by designing and building the 150/30 kV Viçoso Substation with capacity to inject up to 150MVA into the electricity grid of the Viçoso, São Marcos, Pereiro and Albercas photovoltaic plants.

This is the second very-high voltage substation developed by Efacec to Galp, after the 400kV substation of Moimenta da Beira with a capacity of 88MVA.

As part of the substation works, it was also developed and supplied the 150 MVA, 150/30 kV Modular Transformer (Modular Systems), awarded with a Red Dot Design Award in 2021, in the Industrial Equipment, Machinery and Automation subcategory. This was the first project carried out in Portugal using this innovative technology, which allows a piece of equipment to receive new functionalities according to customer’s needs without compromising performance or the overall architecture.

“Through the design and construction of the Viçoso Substation and the supply of the 150MVA Modular Transformer, Efacec ensured the connection of this major Galp photovoltaic project to the electricity grid, helping to meet the country’s demanding decarbonization targets. The Viçoso substation is an opportunity for Efacec to demonstrate in Portugal the work that the company has done internationally and for which it has stood out.” says Michael Silva, Efacec’s Chief Commercial Officer.
