Involving a contract worth around 8 million euros and with a completion date of June 2023
Efacec is the leader of the Ferrovia 4.0 project, co-financed by COMPETE 2020, Lisbon 2020, Portugal 2020 and the European Union (European Structural and Investment Funds), which has the overall objective of developing different components, tools and systems to be tested in real vehicles and infrastructures that increase the competitiveness, quality and safety of the rail transport service.
The Ferrovia 4.0 project involves an investment of around eight million euros, started at the end of 2020 and has a scheduled completion date of June 2023.
It aims to address, in an integrated manner, the technological and market challenges that have been faced by the global railway sector, boosting a mobilizing collective action around companies and entities of the R&I System that are part of the Portuguese Railway Platform Cluster, in carrying out industrial innovation and research activities.
Ferrovia 4.0 is led by Efacec and is being developed within the Portuguese Railway Platform and in partnership with various companies and research entities, such as ALMADESIGN, EVOLEO, FEUP, INEGI, ISEL, ISEP, ISQ, Instituto Politécnico do Porto, IST, IT, ITECONS, IP, LNEC, Mota-Engil, MCG, Nomad Tech, Solvit, University of Coimbra, University of Minho, and in collaboration with INOVA+.
According to Paulo Paixão, global coordinator of Ferrovia 4.0: “The aim of this project is to develop solutions that enhance the economic and ecological sustainability of the railway system, highlighting, in the specific collaboration of Efacec, the reduction of operating and maintenance costs, based on the development and provision of reliable information systems to support decision-making and capable of monitoring the infrastructure and rolling stock, triggering alerts and measures in the presence of critical safety events”.
Strategic for the railway sector, the Consortium will be represented at the Hannover Messe2022 trade fair taking place in April, and also at the Innotrans2022 World Transport Fair, to be held in Berlin in September.
With a comprehensive presence in the Energy, Mobility and Environment value chain, Efacec operates as a supplier of solutions and integrated EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) systems and O&M (Operations & Maintenance) service partner.
