Within the scope of the IANOS project and for the pilot of the Terceira Island (Azores), Efacec Energia will develop an innovative distribution transformer concept, the digital hybrid transformer, with the ability to adjust and regulate the output voltage during operation, to cope with increased variability in consumption and increased installed generation capacity, allowing independent control of each phase, as well as active and reactive power or compensation for imbalances, which cannot be provided by conventional transformers. This transformer will have other innovative concepts in terms of the design of magnetic and electrical circuits, in terms of structural layout, and in the selection and use of new materials, biodegradable dielectrics and more efficient and environmentally friendly high-temperature materials. The integration of sensors and a local control unit allows the optimization of the operation and further exploration of the data available on this asset.

For the pilot from Terceira Island, Efacec Electric Mobility will develop and build two prototypes of high-performance electric vehicle chargers, with two-way power transit characteristics, allowing for V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) functionality and support capability the net. The project intends to explore these capabilities in order to implement dynamic load profile programming (intelligent load/discharge scheduling) to avoid network restrictions, voltage support/regulation, network frequency regulation in coordination with the control of automatic system generation. The innovative features of the charger will also allow the development of new use cases related to participation in business models of aggregation of consumers/producers, or the provision of network support services. Within the scope of the project, it is also foreseen the development of an evolutionary architecture and application layer, oriented towards a new concept of V2X (Vehicle-to-everything) that will enhance the role of electric mobility in the electrical system.
