Formula E Season 6, the world’s first fully-electric international single-seater street racing series, organized by the FIA, is about to begin on November 22th in Saudi Arabia. For Efacec, the 2^nd year of the partnership with reigning champion DS Techeetah is a new opportunity to boost business development and to reinforce Efacec’s positioning as a leading company in the value chain of mobility, energy and environment.

In addition to having a partnership with Efacec, the only Portuguese company present in Formula E, DS Techeetah team has been reinforced with the Portuguese driver António Félix da Costa. “We have been contributing to the promotion of Formula E as the future of motorsport. We already brought the DS Techeetah car to Lisbon in Season 4 and 5 and we gave the opportunity to young students and Efacec employees to get to know the drivers, the technicians and the backstage of some races. The Principality of Monaco plays host to the 9^th round of the Formula E season on May 11^th. Occupying a legendary place among motorsport fans, the Monaco circuit host the all-electric street racing for the third time in championship history.

DS TECHEETAH enter the round as championship leaders for the Teams, with drivers André Lotterer and Jean-Éric Vergne in second and sixth place respectively in the Drivers’ championship.

André Lotterer said: “I’m incredibly motivated to have a good result in Monaco. I’ve had two second places now so it’s time to turn that into a first place. As a driver, winning is all that you think about. You live and breathe it so being close yet so far really triggers you to wanting it even more and I will give it all I got. It’s all about every single little point as the championship is a numbers game in the end of the day and we can’t take any gambles.”

Jean-Éric Vergne said: “With five races to go, it’s getting really exciting now. With eight different winners in eight races, anything is possible. Monaco is a track I enjoy driving and it helps that I’ve driven here before. Just like the Grand Prix circuit, the Formula E circuit is super tricky to overtake on so it will be as important as ever to qualify well. All my focus will be on putting it all together to ensure I grid at the top.”

Efacec is celebrating one year after the opening of its electric mobility dedicated facilities last year. This investment materializes the strong commitment of the company in this sector. In a period of just 12 months, Efacec’s electric mobility area turnover grew up about 100%, reaching an amount of 36 million euro, and more than a hundred people were recruited to strengthen the team dedicated to this business unit.

These new electric mobility dedicated facilities materialize the company´s continuous commitment to R&D, innovation and to product engineering and it is aligned with Efacec´s 2020 Strategic Plan, which is the basis for the new cycle the company started in October 2015. This approach allowed Efacec to launch new projects, namely integrated storage solutions, integrated solutions (hardware and software) for home and fleet charging, charging solutions for truck fleets and to evolve the range of high-power solutions.

The new Porto’s Metropolitan Area bus line is already active, connecting the city’s downtown to the Efacec facilities in Arroteia, Leça do Balio. Efacec contributed and supported the development of this new route, that will bring a range of benefits to Efacec’s employees. The 128 is fast, easy access and flexible. The inauguration trip took place yesterday and a press conference was held in line’s final stop: Lionesa Center.

What if it was possible to get from Porto’s downtown to Efacec hub in Arroteia in 10 minutes, using only public transportation? This new route is the result of a combined effort of both Matosinhos Town Council and ViaMove, and will offer a new mobility solution to all Efacec’s employees in their daily transportation routines, in a more affordable and eco-friendly way. “It is indeed an honor for Efacec to be associated with this project, that represents an investment in our best asset: the people. There is a vast range of benefits in the use of this bus line for all the employees, and for the company as well. The creation of this new route translates our will to support the municipalities in the upgrade of transport infrastructures, transforming cities into smart and sustainable eco-systems.”, said Ângelo Ramalho, Efacec’s CEO.

The 128 bus line intends to satisfy a preexistent need: to serve the city council inhabitants and more than ten thousand workers of the business area located in the slopes of the Via Norte motorway. From Monday to Friday, Efacec’s employees will be able to choose between 18 daily bus departures. The new line is part of the Andante system and will benefit of all the advantages of the universal bus pass.

Part of the Matosinhos project for the requalification of public transports, and following the United Nations guidance for the development of a safer and more sustainable public transportation network across the globe,  this new bus line will connect the railway network (São Bento train station) with all the Metro lines and road lines in the downtown of Porto.

 

The Municipality of Matosinhos attributed the Golden Medal of Merit to Efacec for its contribution to the economic and social dynamization of the municipality. The distinction was received by the CEO of the company, Ângelo Ramalho, at the Solemn Session, which took place in the Hall of the Town, regarding the celebrations of the 45th anniversary of April 25th and of the 500th anniversary of the attribution of the Leça do Balio’s Charter.

Formula E is back in Paris. For the fourth year in a row, the “City of Lights” welcomes the thrilling electric street-racing series. The Paris E-Prix will pass through some of the most iconic areas of the city, namely “Les Invalides” area, next Saturday, April 27^th.

Paris will be a special E-Prix for DS TECHEETAH. In addition to arriving in Paris at the top in the Teams’ championship, it will be DS Automobiles home race and there will be no lack of motivation for Jean-Éric Vergne to try to repeat his triumph of last season.

For Jean-Éric Vergne, the Rome E-Prix was a tough day. “I had a good race starting 16th after a bad qualifying where we had a little technical issue. It was a good recovery and I managed to secure the fastest lap, but then I got a penalty which put me out of the points. We still had a very good race with André who finished second with strong points for the team. So, all in all it’s not too bad, but we just need to have two cars finishing on the podium in Paris. That would be great!”, said the reigning champion.

Portuguese engineering talent will meet Formula E behind the scenes

Efacec brought 150 young people to Lisbon to tackle a challenge themed on the future of mobility, environment and energy. Throughout the day, young people were invited to respond to different challenges with creativity and working as team, and then to present their ideas for the future during an individual pitch.

At the end of a busy day, seven of the nine winners of the “Formula Efacec” initiative, a challenge launched by Efacec to higher education students and recent graduates from the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, were announced. The top candidates won a trip to a Formula-E race during Season 5.

During the final stage of “Formula Efacec”, the candidates had the opportunity to see DS TECHEETAH’s Formula E car and to meet driver André Lotter and Team Principal Mark Preston. The German driver, currently placed in 3^rd position in the driver standings, said: “To be a champion, of course we need motivation, but staying at the top is much more difficult. You always have to work hard. I learned early from the pressure of competition and victories, it becomes a natural environment. Driving is perhaps the easiest part. We have a lot of work from home to prepare the races, it gives us confidence. DS TECHEETAH is a small team compared to the other teams but we have achieved very good things”.

Efacec “gives” energy to the Eiffel Tower and is supporting electric mobility developments

France is a strategic market for Efacec. During the last three years the French market represented more than 60 million euros of orders. Efacec has been working with French leading utilities for several decades by supplying transformers and switchgear. Specifically, in Paris, Efacec’s technology guarantees electricity supply to one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world and supplies as well one of the biggest icons of the city: the Eiffel Tower. Efacec also provided medium voltage switchgear and distribution transformers to Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Another cutting-edge technology segment where Efacec operates is the aerospace sector, a segment in which as the company has been working with for more than 15 years. Efacec is currently developing, among other equipment, the 3^rd generation of its radiation monitor for the JUICE mission that will be launched in 2022 and orbiting Jupiter planet in 2029. This is a project developed for Airbus, based in Toulouse, in partnership with the European Space Agency.

The decarbonization of the economy and the adoption of new and sustainable ways of mobility are current challenges in Europe. The French government intends to set the example and is seeking to make a strong transition to electric mobility by setting an objective of one million electric vehicles by 2022. This project also includes two additional objectives: to electrify 50% of the municipality’s car fleet in the next three years and to invest 700 million euros to produce batteries for EV in the next five years.

Electric mobility market in France is expanding, registering an increase of about 42% in 2018 comparing to 2017, with more than 165 thousand electric vehicles registered. As a pioneer in the electric mobility and a world leader in the production of ultra-fast chargers, Efacec is attentive to the French market. Business opportunities in the area of electric mobility are being analyzed with automobile manufacturers, utilities and oil and gas companies.

Efacec has just launched a challenge to higher education students and recent graduates (bachelor and Master) from Science, Technology, Engineering and Math areas. This competition is called “Formula Efacec” and aims to find new solutions for the future of mobility, energy and environment.

With this initiative, Efacec portrays its culture and values at the same time identifies new talents for its different business areas. The competition will run in three phases: an online application, a Speed Interview and a Hackathon.

The online application process runs until April 11^th and is done at https://formulaefacec.com. Following a curriculum vitae review, the best applicants will be contacted for a telephonic Speed Interview where the 150 top applicants will be invited to the final stage, that will take place on April 18^th, in Lisbon.

The final stage is entitled “Formula Efacec Hackathon”. Throughout an intense day of work, the candidates get in touch with Efacec employees, evaluators and mentors from Efacec and from the best Portuguese universities that will help them to go through a series of challenges on Efacec’s key segments: Energy, Mobility and Environment. The candidates will also have the opportunity to meet DS TECHEETAH’s Gen2 car, which will be coming to Portugal exclusively for this event, and to interact with André Lotterer, DS TECHEETAH Formula E Team driver. The top five candidates will be selected to win a trip to a Formula-E race during season 5.

The campaign will also have an online dynamic, called “Growth Hacking”, an additional way to win a trip to a Formula-E race. The “Growth Hacking” is an online competition that will appeal to the candidates’ creativity and their ability to generate social media engagement. After completing the online application form, applicants will be invited to submit a video and compete for likes on Facebook. Each video shall be recorded with two people and both shall be eligible applicants. The applicants whose video gathers more likes on Facebook will win a trip to a Formula-E race.  The first “Growth Hacking” round will take place from March 25th to April 11th and the second round from May 6^th to 20^th. In each of the two rounds two winners will be designated for a total of four winners.

Competence, creativity, team spirit and ability to overcome challenges are the attributes that Efacec will seek to assess near university graduates during the 2019 edition of “Pitch Bootcamp” initiative. Efacec is one of this initiative, led by Spark, which brings together companies, universities and young talent. The beginning of “Pitch Bootcamp 2019” is scheduled for March 2^nd at Instituto Superior Técnico, in Lisbon.

As Corporate Friend of this career accelerator program, Efacec will be represented by a group of two to three employees in each of the 20 editions that will occur throughout this year. Efacec will participate in two different moments of “Pitch Bootcamp” program, called Pitch and Pitch Carousel. In the first moment, the students will make a presentation to a jury composed by employees of several companies, who will share their feedback and support the students. Coliseu do Porto was filled with Efacec’s Power. More than 1.700 employees gathered this Tuesday, February 19, for the 2nd Edition of POWER – the company’s annual event – to meet the winner of Star Awards, the new positioning of Efacec Brand and to share a moment of conviviality with all colleagues. With presentations of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Brand and Communication Manager and Chairman of the Board of Directors, the event also featured the humor of the improvisational comedy group Os Improváveis and a Power Talk by Miguel Gonçalves, which captured the audience with an inspirational and energetic talk.

Ângelo Ramalho, CEO of Efacec, opened the event with an appreciation note to all teams for the work developed in 2018 and emphasized the need to keep investing in people, assuring the technological innovation and reinforcing the competitiveness of the company in an efficient way. The CEO also highlighted the importance of collaborative work for Efacec’s success, reinforcing that it is from the quality of the “interactions that effectiveness results”.

Mário Leite da Silva, President of the Executive Committee, spoke about the role of Efacec and its impact on the quality of people’s lives and on the sustainability of the planet. Although the positive results obtained in the past three years, and the overcome challenges after the entry of the new administration, the Chairman of the Board of Directors emphasized the importance of the “efforts to build and consolidate a dynamic, flexible and international competitive company, in the different areas in which operates”.

The Star Awards ceremony had some of the most remarkable moments of the event, with a healthy competitiveness between the several nominees and the excitement of the winners when receiving the awards.

The assessment, retaining and talent development are key factors in Efacec’s development strategy for the next decade. To respond to this objective, Efacec has just taken a step forward by integrating FEUP’s Prime program, as a strategic partner of the project, promoted by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).

By partnering this initiative, Efacec will have the opportunity to attract the best talent, involve students to solve concrete situations, work with researchers on societal challenges and cutting-edge innovation. By taking part of this FEUP program, Efacec materializes its strategy of placing people in the center of the company’s development, looking for the renewal of its talent DNA and the promotion of gender equality, namely empowering women in tech.

Regarding FEUP, the long-standing partnership between the two institutions has also materialized through internships of FEUP students in the company. In the last three years, Efacec has granted 72 professional internships and 54 traineeships to FEUP students.

The company distinguished 74 children and young people by awarding a total of 16750€ in Scholarships.

Recognize performance in school activities, encourage the pursuit of merit and strengthen the connection of future generations to the company. These are the main goals of the program School Merit Scholarship, which is assigned annually, to the employees’ children.

The School Merit Scholarship ceremony was held on September 29^th at Efacec’s facilities, in a session that was attended by around 170 people.

According to Sandra Pombo, Global Director of Brand and Communication at Efacec, the School Merit Scholarship program reflects Efacec’s commitment to supporting the energy of the future. “Like other Efacec initiatives aimed at training, recruitment and retention of talent, the School Merit Scholarship program materializes our strategy of putting people at the center of the company’s development and evolution, Efacec Talent DNA Renewal, promoting gender equality, in particular what we call empowering women in tech. ”

“The company’s employees are ambassadors of the Efacec brand, bringing the values, knowledge and achievements of the company out of the facilities and to different geographies of the world where the company is. It is our concern that, from an early age, the children of our employees feel part of the company, that they know the diversity of the areas and functions that exist within the group and that they are aware of the capacity of constant innovation that the company has. In the academic year 2017/2018, Efacec awarded Scholarships for School Merit to the best students of all school years, from the 1st to the 12th year of schooling, in all geographies where it is present.

From a total of 214 applications, corresponding to children of 159 Efacec’s employees, the jury evaluated the performance of each student, selecting those who presented the best grades in each year of schooling.

The best 74 students (38 girls and 36 boys) received scholarships ranging from 100 euros (attributed to the 1st year of schooling) to 750 euros (attributed to the 12th year of schooling). In a total amount of 16750 euros, that was awarded on scholarships.
