Latin America, the market that confirms Efacec’s growth
Brazil, Argentina and Chile represent target markets for the company in this region.
Regarding Brazil, the most important country for Efacec in the Latin America market, the end of 2009 marked the beginning of a new stage in the operations of Efacec do Brasil, now with its new headquarters located in Vila Mariana (São Paulo). The head office was relocated in order to reduce the use of resources and create sustainable conditions for the Group’s growth plans and corporate guidelines.
Efacec carried out projects of great importance in this country, such as the completion and opening of the Sacomã station of the São Paulo Metro. This achievement, fulfilled on schedule, made a great impression on the customer. In 2008, Efacec won this major contract for execution of a project, supply and implementation of the electrical traction system for Line 2 of the São Paulo Metro, leading a consortium with TRENDS and with a holding of 70%.
In regard to Efacec Energy, an energy servicing company located in Recife and acquired by Efacec in 2007, it is worth mentioning the visit made to Portugal of the State Secretary for Economic Development of Pernambuco, with the consequent signing of a cooperation agreement for the construction of an industrial unit for this company, in Suape. Efacec Energy also obtained an important contract from PETROBRÁS (Bahia) for to the repair of nine transformers.
Equally important were other important achievements in the other countries of this market, particularly in Argentina, where Bauen Efacec (a company that has been part of the Group since 1997), located in Córdoba, began developing new products, namely the Normacel Double Circuit-Breaker, the Normacel Weatherproof Double Busbar and the Qbn7 back-to-back, having also initiated operations for the resin components center. These projects arose following the official opening (on the 12th of June 2007) of a new industrial unit specialized in the manufacture of Medium and High-voltage equipment and the revamping (in 2008) of the first Medium-Voltage component production center outside Portugal. Bauen Efacec also obtained its first orders for high-voltage disconnectors, fully executed by a local workforce. The new industrial infrastructures, the implementation of the ERP BaaN system and the use of management procedures and tools common to Bauen Efacec and to Efacec’s Switchgear Unit in Portugal, made a strong contribution to the local team’s motivation and optimization.
As for Efacec’s activities in Chile, the main highlights are the first order from CGE (Compañia General de Electricidad), which enabled the company to increase its holdings in Condenser Banks and Medium-Voltage Switchgear.
